Dondero was inspired by pleas for help by both the mayor of Dallas and the Dallas police chief. Furthermore, James Dondero stated that he was impressed by how The Family Place runs its organization and is proud to support it. The money raised will be used in part to help The Family Place build a badly needed counseling center. This facility will include shelter beds for emergency guests, a job training center and will even boast a medical and dental clinic. It is estimated that the shelter will help roughly 2,000 victims of domestic violence a year.
