Cameron Brown is the current head coach for the Orange Coast College rowing team. He has seen many students who struggle in high school come to OCC and “catch fire.” Orange Coast College helps students improve both mentally and physically by excelling both on the field and in the classroom.
Coach Brown says that rowing helps prepare the students both physically and mentally which translates to better performance. OCC has gone on to place students in places like UC Berkeley, the University of Washington, and Stanford. The Rowing teams has won 11 national titles. They have also had 10 students move on to compete in the world championship as well as the olympics.
The assistant coach for the OCC rowing team is Steve Morris. He was the head coach in the 90’s. He was the Coxswain when he was a student at OCC. He says in an interview in the OC Register that, “if they are off by even one hair it disrupts the rhythm.” Proving that mental sharpness as well as physical acuity is essential to the sport. Orange Coast College is a 164 acre campus located in Costa Mesa California. The college, founded in 1947, is now one of the largest community colleges in the country.

The head coach for the Stanford rowing team got his start at OCC. His name is Craig Amerkhanian. He has said in the OC Register that, “OCC was the springboard I needed.” He says that academically and in rowing OCC was exactly what he needed.
